Discover the new robot barn Alapyky Oy

The opening of Alapyky Farm’s new barn was held on October 3rd, 2025.

The new robotic barn was completed after a carefully planned design process. Even before construction began, the farm focused on improving daily work routines and adapting herd management practices to fit a modern robotic milking system. The goal was to build a barn that supports both cow comfort and efficient workflow for the people working there.

A thorough preparation phase preceded the project: the 4dBarn Invest was carried out in early 2023 to determine a suitable building site and prepare an initial cost estimate. The actual barn design process started in autumn 2023 through the 4dBarn Designed training program, and by December, the operational plan, barn layout, work simulations, and gate layout were all finalized.

Although Alapyky Farm has been using robotic milking for many years, the new barn project provided an opportunity to update routines to meet the standards of the 2020s — improving efficiency, cow welfare, and everyday work.

Key features of the new barn:

  • 3-row, expandable freestall barn
  • Sand stalls throughout
  • Solid floors with scrapers
  • Natural ventilation with curtain walls
  • 2x Lely milking robots
  • Expansion area reserved for future growth
