A new robot barn for organic milk production was completed for JMK-Milkhouse Oy, combining smooth daily workflows, cow comfort, and future expansion possibilities. The barn was built for two robots but designed to be expandable to four.
The design process started from daily work routines – herd management practices were reviewed and updated before the actual barn design began. This is reflected in efficient workflows and a well-functioning overall layout in everyday use.
The barn features a 6-row layout with feedwall. Cows, also (VIC) cows are also housed in deep stalls. In addition, there is a dedicated foster cow section with Dreamstall- stall mattresses.
Solid floors with manure scrapers, along with natural ventilation through curtain sidewalls, support a functional and sustainable overall solution.
The project started with a 4dBarn® Invest in winter 2023, during which the building location and investment framework were defined. In autumn 2024, the farm joined the 4dBarn® Designed coaching program, resulting in a complete operational plan, layout, work simulations, and gate design.
The barn was officially opened on November 28, 2025, in Närpiö.
